MARRIAGE / DATING ADVICE

I thought I would pass on some advice that could help out your married life or dating life . Now I’m asked often just how did I talk my beautiful wife into marrying me . Well that was simple I treat her like a Queen . Not only do I tell her daily I love her but I do my best to show her daily that I love her . Now as everybody knows that after you have been together for awhile everything starts to run into the normal days of doing everything the same day after day . Now this can get a little boring at times . When people get bored they start looking for something new . Now this is when trouble can start , especially if you are already married . Because sometimes that something new is a person . I know that’s shocking now ain’t it….LOL So there have been people that have asked my wife , just how does she put up with my craziness , Her response was priceless for me . She told them that life with me never get’s boring . I think that’s  a good thing anyway .  . So my advice is keep life exciting for you partner in crime and keep them on the edge of their seat just waiting to see what will happen next . My wife may wish sometimes I would tone it down just a little bit , But I’m in my prime now, We’ve been together for 32 GLORIOUS YEARS and got plenty more to go God willing . So please share some of your experiences , what have you done or what has your other done for you to keep things interesting , I might need some new ideas . So go out and see what you can do for your other half today . And as always thanks for stopping by come back and see us soon

GOOD MANNERS

I have to say that while growing up I didn’t always like the way my Dad taught me , but I did learn . I wonder do people today still teach their kids some of these basic manners . Like holding a door open for someone as they approach the door that you just opened . The other night me and my wife were approaching a door and a lady was heading through the door and instead of holding the door for a couple of seconds she just let the door shut . Now I know it wasn’t nothing to reopen the door but it just struck me as rude . I always hold the door open for anybody that’s close behind me . A main thing while growing up was saying yes sir and yes ma’am , and please and thank you . I remember one time we were over at a friend of the family when the lady asked me if I would like some tea . Without thinking my response was ” Naaaa” that’s alright . Just as soon as I said it I knew I was in trouble . My Dad looked at me and then we went outside where he made me see the error of my ways . I came back in and I told the lady No Ma’am I would not like any tea but thank you for asking …..LOL I was also taught you open the car door for your girlfriend or wife . If I was sitting down and an older person came in the room I gave my seat up for that person or if a lady came in the room I gave my seat up . I remember one time in a VA clinic where I was waiting an elderly man came in and there was no more seats , I stood up and offered him mine , he politely told me that’s ok he would stand , I told him I said sir my Dad would roll over in his grave if I kept the seat , So I told him I wasn’t going to sit there that he better take it before a new person came in and took it . These are things I still do today . I still say Sir and Ma’am and please and thank you  . It’s the little things that goes a long way . A young man the other day gave up his seat on a bus for my daughter so I know there’s still manners being taught so please pass it along , and Thank you for taking the time to read this and Please come back again .

A NEW YEAR AN OLD IDEA

Well ya’ll we are in a brand new year , it’s a new year it’s been awhile since I’ve written a new blog . But I got to thinking about something . Ya’ll know how they say everything old is new again , I got a great idea for bringing another old idea back around . Now we can’t help what others do , but we can help what we do with ourselves . Now with a blog called Hillbilly talks I’m going to quote a source that might surprise ya’ll , But Michael Jackson has a song where he say’s start with the man in the mirror . So how about this idea for this year . Ya’ll remember the Golden Rule ? DO UNTO OTHER’S AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU . Now how about we bring that back me around . So as we go about our lives we treat people the way we would want them to treat us . It’s easy to be mean and ugly to people but how about we smother them with helpfulness and a smile . Sometimes that’s how you get people to thinking about how they really are . Now I can’t say everybody will be nice back to you but if your nice to them you’ll feel better about yourself . It’s worth a shot anyways so how about giving it a try . Lets do this and help spread a smile where it’s needed and that’s on your own face

LIFE

Have you ever stopped to think about where you’re at in your life ? I ask myself how in the world am I about to be 52 years old , I remember back when I was in school thinking I can’t wait to get out of school , all the older people would tell me to enjoy it while I was there because I’d be working soon enough . I thought well at least I’d be getting paid to do it . Well I sure wish I’d listened to those people at the time , because now I’m thinking what happened and how did I get here . So to any of you younger readers enjoy it while you can and enjoy being young . Go on out and do some stupid stuff it will give you some stories to tell when you’re older . Just be smart enough to survive being stupid that is your job . I do wish that I could take back some of the stuff I did but oh well , it was fun at the time…LOL Now I have enjoyed my life and I have done many things in my life that I never would have thought I’d get the chance to do . Right out of high school I went into the Army and that gave me the chance to do stuff I’d never even imagined , I was 17 years old and they asked me if I could drive this Tractor Trailer because I had mentioned that my Dad was a truck driver , now what is a 17 year old guy gonna say ? I said sure I can drive it but I don’t have a license , they reached into the desk drawer and pulled out a paper license and then I had a license…LOL I didn’t even know how to hook up the trailer but I learned fast . I’ve got the chance to write and to sing a jingle on the radio on a major country station in Atlanta years ago , that’s right people I did say sing . I also got the chance to be a DJ on a different station years after that . Me and my wife have hiked down into the Grand Canyon that was just WOW! I will be 52 in November and I still look forward to many more experiences to have . So what are some of the things that have gotten you to where you’re at ? What did people used to tell you while growing up . Feel free to share I look forward to reading your responses and as always thanks for coming by , we’ll see ya next time

MUSIC

Now I will say that I love all kinds of music , My favorite is country music followed by classic rock . I will listen to other kinds of music though , I have 2 daughters that have introduced me to music I probably wouldn’t have heard otherwise . Some of it is pretty good . But I gotta ask like with Rock and Roll you have channels with todays stuff and then you have your classic Rock channels . Now why hasn’t country music stations picked up on this ? I will listen to the stations around the house in the metro Atlanta area . All they play is the new stuff , which once again I do like some of the new stuff but I’d really love to hear some Haggard , Jennings and Jones among a lot more that you don’t hear anymore .You would think that in a city as big as Atlanta that there would be a station that would play classic country , I’m sure there’s as many classic country fans as they as classic Rock fans . Now even with the new country music there is some hope , If you have never heard of Mo Pitney go to You Tube and look him up . He is a young guy with an old sound . I’m sure there’s more out there that ya’ll like. My favorites are Merle Haggard and Don Williams but I have plenty I like . If your talking rock you can’t go wrong with Skynyrd . So there is no wrong answer on this what music do you like and who’s music really talks to you ? If you know of an up and comer please share with the rest of us. And as always thanks for stopping by

AIR CONDITIONER

How many of ya’ll think back to when ya’ll were young and think we didn’t have A/C . I remember growing up and having a big box fan that set in the hallway door that led into the living room , I remember we would take a coat hanger and twist it up so at night time we would put a box fan in the bathroom window and leave our bedroom doors open and it would work like a attic fan and pull the air from the outside and cool it down some . I thought when we actually got a real window fan I thought we were rich …LOL I know we all say nowadays about how we were always outside when were younger and I was too , we always had a neighborhood ballgame going , or had some kind of game going on . But I’ve come to think about it then and now , It was cooler outside than inside the house …..LOL I remember when we finally got a window unit that was just for cooling down the dining room and the living room , Now my Dad was a truck driver and on some nights he would leave out early and when he did , we would all sleep in the living room with the A/C on . I’m sure my Dad figured out what we were doing when he got the power bill . But I’ve got to say I really love my A/C now , In the car or in my house I gotta have it . I don’t know if it’s just hotter now or if I’m just old , maybe a little bit of both . So what is some of your stories growing up with no A/C . Did ya’ll ever spend the night in a room with the ? Did ya’ll put a box fan in the window , what helped ya’ll through the hot nights . Share your stories and as always thanks for stopping by

SUMMER AND THE 4TH

So we’re in the midst of our summer heat , Now I have family and friends out in Texas and I’ve seen they have been over 100 degrees . Now down here in Ga were having our own heat problems but I’m not complaining because Texas has it worse so no matter how bad you think you have it somebody does have it worse . I’m sure theirs people in other places that would take the Texas heat in place of their own . Now I’ve never been to San Francisco but somebody told me it stays between the 70-80 degrees year round , I can’t say that’s right but if it is that would sure be nice . Now when I was a kid the heat didn’t seem to bother me , we were always having a neighborhood ballgame of some sort it depended on what sport was happening at the time , Baseball or Football were a mainstay . So is it just hotter nowadays or am I just getting old…LOL Now I do know I’m getting old but I think another part of it is , we when were kids we didn’t have A/C in the house , so a lot of the time it was cooler under a shade tree . Then come the 4th of July we’d get together to celebrate , and there was home made ice cream , Not everybody back in those days had fireworks like they do now , but we lived close enough to Six Flags over Ga to see their fireworks from the house , we knew where to look over the trees to see them. Summer was fun but also work back in the days we would help out on the family farm in the mountains . I know the kids still look forward to summers because of the no school thing but when you get older unless you’re a teacher you don’t have the summers off anymore . But it does seem to be a time for Family . So go out on an upcoming weekend and make some home made ice cream and if you live close by invite me over I like chocolate . Fall will be here shortly which is my favorite time of the year . So ya’ll have some fun and thanks for stopping by , come back again soon

AUTOMATIC REPLIES

Have ya’ll ever stopped to think about how automatic some of our responses are ? I got to thinking of this the other day , My wife was going off and I told her to be careful , Then I got to thinking how often I tell her and my daughters to be careful . It aint like they are gonna go off and try to be in a wreck or something but for some reason I feel better telling them to be careful . Also how often do we walk by somebody with the response how are you doing and most respond with alright and you . Or we say it sure is hot outside . So how often do we fall into just saying the same old things on a daily basis ? I do try to mix it up some but I fall into this same trap . So what are some of the things that ya’ll fall into the habit of saying ? So that way we can compare notes , Thanks for stopping by and we’ll see ya’ll next time

FATHERS DAY

Here we are at Fathers day weekend . My Dad has been gone for a few years now . But he still lives on with me everyday . He helped make me the person I am today , Now my Dad was a tough acting man who didn’t like to show emotion . He was old school where men were men and men didn’t cry and were taught to be tough . So when my Dad would tell all of us that he was proud of us and that he loved us we knew that he meant it . I still remember times growing up where he would come outside and race all of us kids and he would run in his boots….LOL . Now all the kids in my neighborhood called my parents Maw Maw and Paw Paw , and they would come and show my Dad their report cards . Those were great times to grow up in . Now my Dad taught all of his kids to respect others and to help others out and we have carried that on in life . So my Dads legacy still lives on . I remember growing up we had a neighbor who was sick and my Dad sent me and a brother to cut his grass and do his yardwork for him , and also every year he would take vacation and we would all go and clean the family cemetery plots of family long gone . So he really taught us family was important and took care of each other . I would also like to by say my Father In Law is another great man who taught me how a man can show his love for other people . My Father in Law is a true man of God and has been a true inspiration to me . So here I am rambling on and on about my Dad , so please tell me some memories about your Dad or a man in your life who you look up too . And as always thanks for stopping by
